About

Welcome to Teach with Kate! I'm glad you're here!

I'm a credentialed, California elementary school teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience.  Although I am licensed to teach all subjects in grades K-8, my passion is Literacy instruction.

My favorite part of teaching literacy is working with progressing readers through fluent readers, and I use modified workshop models across all of my English Language Arts instruction block.  I believe in using mentor texts and constructivist teaching methods to deepen comprehension and teach writers.

Currently, I'm spending my time in a self-contained elementary sixth grade classroom and chasing my two year old son around town!

I have two hopes for this blog.  One is to share my ideas and ramblings about teaching, and the other is to share some of my very own classroom mishaps and hopefully give you a good laugh.

I started this blog in 2011, and it was called "Second Grade Sparkle".  Now the posts I write are aimed at teachers across various grade levels and you'll see a variety of topics and ideas for multiple grades and ages.  I also sell digital teaching resources on the website Teachers Pay Teachers, and enjoy creating helpful materials for educators across the country!
