Whiz at Math & Mini-Giveaway

Hello friends! I hope you had a relaxing weekend!

I just wanted to do a quick post today about something fun my class does every Friday.  It's called Whiz at Math (WhaM!) and it's so fun!  I'm also going to give it away to five lucky readers! Score! Wham!

It's so fun, in fact, that when I forget (imagine that!) my students are more than happy to remind me once or twice eighty times.

Now you're all, "What are you talking about??"

WhaM is a series of five timed quizzes. The quizzes have all kinds of important skills like doubles facts, time, and fact families.  Every Friday, each student takes one of the five quizzes.  All students get two minutes.  If they finish in time and get a 100%, they get to try the next level the next week.  If they don't, they just stay on the same level until they finish.  It doesn't get too complicated because there are only five quizzes.

The whole process takes about 5-7 minutes.

What I really like is that the quizzes are challenging and in later levels, the advanced kiddos still have to work hard to pass the quiz.  They feel really good about themselves when they finally do!

It's also easy to differentiate by adding time or lifting the time limit for some of the strugglers.

I also make it super funtastical!

No doubt you've heard all about Image Stuff and their Brag Tags.  No doubt you already know how much I love them.
Well, the Brag Tags are the perfect incentive for my WhaM! Other incentives are great too, but the Brag Tags are super inexpensive and the kids go crazy for them.

Here's how it works in my room:

Students who pass the first WhaM Quiz #1 earn the Math Award:

Students who pass WhaM #3 earn the Math Wizard:

And finally, students who pass the fifth and final quiz earn Math Ninja! (It is highly-coveted.)

By the end of the year, everyone will earn the Math Ninja (even if I had to make accommodations).

The five quizzes should last most of the year.  How cool is that?

Here's a link to the WhaM if you'd like to check it out!

But the best part about this post is that I'm going to give it away to five lucky winners! You can use it even if you don't have Brag Tags. :)

Leave a comment below and tell me why you'd like these - and I'll draw five winners to get it for free! This mini-giveaway will end tomorrow at 11:59pm PST. I'll choose the winners on Tuesday.

Have a great week, friends! :)

  15. Oh wow! I have extra help until April and we have divided up the students in small groups and are really working on math facts. These look perfect!

  16. I love everything I find on your blog- especially because I am student teaching and looking for great ideas for a small price!! I would love to win!

  17. My homeschooler and I could have so much fun with these. Due to her sensory and learning deficits, she really struggles with maths and it is so heartbreaking to watch her, when I know she is trying so hard. Our best success has been with math games and quizzes. I think adding the timing component here would help her confidence, as she becomes able to complete tasks in shorter intervals. Thanks for the opportunity. thursdaytook@hotmail.com

  18. We do timed tests at my school and these look like they'd be a great next step :)
